Simplicity in shape and colour...
Perfection in form and function...
A canoe...it's what I love...It's what I paint.
Using bold colours and strong graphic shapes, my goal is to evoke feelings of nostalgia and tranquility.
Memories of summer camps, cottages, and camping trips.
The way wet varnish on a wooden canoe smells on a hot summer day.
The iconic Red Canoe.
Acrylic on canvas
I tend to focus on the details of the canoe more than the background.
Why? ...I had the opportunity a few years ago to build a canoe, and the intricacies of this craft intrigued me. Every rib is different, yet the same, every nail is placed in a very specific spot for a reason. As for the background? I don't want you to see a specific body of water, I want you to see your body of water.
Please contact me if you see something you like that is marked sold or if you see something you like but would like it in a different size or colour ("I like these, but Grandpas canoe was green") Enjoy your visit!
I live and work in Morrisburg...south of Ottawa, Ontario Canada with my husband Sam, who owns the local weekly newspaper. We live in close proximity to our three adult children and their spouses and are devoted to our three adorable grandchildren!
